Russell Simmons finds it hard to date like he once did.

Personally, I’ve always been a little bit in awe of Def Jam founder Russell Simmons. I’m a sucker for those entrepreneur types who seem down to earth and happen to have their head on straight and are talented and smart as heck to boot. And when he started Def Jam Poetry? You had me forever there, Russell. (I’m also a fan of Russell’s ex-wife, Kimora Lee – a model and designer who is no slouch on the business (or beauty end) either. In fact, I have a pair of Lee’s “baby phat” glasses – if anyone’s interested.)

So I was extremely disappointed to hear that he and Lee had split after 15 years of marriage. Simmons now has found himself dating again at 49 and apparently he’s none too excited about it!

So here’s what I’ve got to say to Russell (because he MUST be a fan of this dating blog so I know he’ll see it):

Russell:

Dating IS different each year that you get older, but especially when you’ve been out of the singles world for a while. But you are at the perfect age for dating again! Plus, you’re smart and wealthy and successful… and that is a package no woman is likely to pass up. I'd date ya myself in a heartbeat. So go slow if you need to, take things at your own pace. But don’t be afraid to get out there! Don’t worry about doing the whole dating thing like you did when you were 17… who WANTS to date like they were 17 again anyways? We were all immature and hung up on the wrong things in life back then. Every year we get smarter. (Not all of us - but MOST anyways.) So go easy on yourself. You're a stud and we know you'll do what's right for yourself and your kids.

And if you want someone to talk to about your dating questions - you can always find me at: dating@suite101.com.
