Has an emotional affair affected your relationship?

In a recent Suite101 Dating poll, I asked readers this question:

Has an emotional affair affected your relationship?

I knew the problem of emotional affairs was a big issue in relationships today, but the numbers on this poll really surprised me. A whopping 80% of people said either they or their partner had engaged in an emotional affair.

Just as upsetting was the second most popular response (with 15%) of votes, which said many of you are unclear as to what the signs of an emotional affair really are.

Emotional affairs are not only tricky to be in, they are sometimes hard to get out of. After all, the object of your emotional affair is often a coworker or close friend that you still might have to see from time to time. But ending the affair is a necessary step in moving forward toward forgiveness. Here are some tips on how to put the breaks on your emotional affair.
