Can't Stop Internet Dating!

People to Avoid When Dating Online

Most people online are great folks who just haven't met the right person yet. Some, however, are bad news.

When I was online dating there was a guy who immediately told me he'd been "on the system" for eight years. Eight! At the time, I'd been on not quite six months.

The thing that struck me was he bragged about it. He seemed very proud and even mentioned that he felt he was one of the first to try Internet dating in our area. He also told me he belonged to "several" other online services than the one we both used to meet each other.

So I kept thinking: why is he still Internet dating?

It didn’t take me long to figure it out. On our date he talked about the different girl’s he’d been out with, about their outfits, their hair (and other body parts) and even mentioned how many of them were now his friends. So I had to ask him, “Why are you still doing this? What are you hoping to find?”

He looked taken aback, as if the thought had never occurred to him. He said, “I dunno. I’d like to find someone. I guess.”

He guessed. I knew by our date that he and I were not going to connect. After all, he’d spent the entire time talking about the girl’s he’d been out with (fondly, at least) rather than getting to know me. It was like he was keeping a list of characteristics of all of us so he could tell the next girl he scouted online. This type of guy is just one example of someone you want to avoid when Internet dating.

But there are others! Oh yes… and I’ll give you a few stories about them as the days go on.
