Probably one of the most asked questions by teens and adults alike is how to know the signs of being in love.

Exchanging welcoming glances from across the room, having meaningful conversations, sharing intimate moments, and feeling good in the others presence are all conducive of a steamy romance. But is it love? And how long will it really last?

What is Love?

Love has many meanings depending upon who is asked to elaborate upon the topic. Some people associate love with sex. Some feel there is such a thing as love at first sight. Most articles will suggest that this is not true love, however energetically, sending off vibrations is one of the most basic forms of human interaction. It's just not spoken of very much. Sexual attraction is a grand part of falling in love, but when it is not accompanied by any other mutual feelings of respect and care for the other person, this is than classified as lust.

What are the Signs of Being in Love?

Some of the most tell tale signs include daydreaming of the person, going over an enjoyable event that occurred, or having an overall good feeling of self when spending time with or thinking of the individual. There are several others to be aware of:

  • Spending a lot of time with one another
  • Enjoying each others company
  • Thoughts are consistently about the other person in a positive way

Are There Ways to Know for Sure?

Although the following are often sure fire ways to know, they may be the exception for a small few who read this article. For the most part, checking off five or more of the following is a very positive sign that lasting love is in the air.

  1. The attraction is beyond sexual. There is genuine mutual agreement to work with one another in the face of adversity or argument.
  2. Each person knows the value of alone time with self which can only add to the spark and excitement when together.
  3. Neither feels the need to test the others love. Feelings of jealousy disappear when a true sense of self has been accomplished.
  4. There is a commitment to talk things out and be calm and honest with one another about thoughts and feelings even if a conflict arises.
  5. A sense of fulfillment or joy and peace surrounds the idea of spending the rest of this earthly life with this person.
  6. Opinions are honored.
  7. There is an overwhelming sense that this is a trustworthy relationship.

The verdict is in. The initial signs of being in love are not exactly the blue print for which one can know for sure that lasting love will abound. Only time will tell. If someone is respectful, trustworthy, can allow for opinions, is willing to discuss through problems and challenges without forcing a self serving agenda, doesn't feel the need to test the relationship, and mutual feelings of joy and bliss exists when in each others company, lasting love is surely to stay.
