Roses are red, roses are blue, and yellow, and pink, and white, and plenty of other colors too. Did you know that each color of rose has a special meaning?

Every woman loves to get flowers, especially roses. Roses can be given for any occasion, such as Valentine's Day, birthdays, or anniversaries. Giving roses does not have to be limited to special days, though. Different color roses convey different feelings and emotions, and are perfect flowers to use when you want to send a message to the recipient.

Red

The red rose is the most common color of rose to give and receive. It is the symbol of romantic love, and also of beauty and courage. A single red rose conveys the message "I Love You". A red rosebud symbolizes loveliness and purity. A deep red or burgundy roses means unconscious beauty. Red roses are perfect for Valentine's Day, anniversaries, and weddings, or anytime you want to express your love.

Yellow

Yellow roses are symbols of friendship and congratulations. Yellow roses are great for prom dates and birthdays. A bouquet of yellow and red roses conveys happiness or celebration. Yellow roses with a red tip indicate that you are friends falling in love.

Pink

Different shades of pink roses have different meanings. Pale or light pink means grace, gentleness, fun, joy and happiness. Dark or deep pink mean thank you, or "I'm thinking of you".

Lilac

Lilac roses are another great Valentine's rose for new love. Lilac roses convey enchantment or love at first sight.

White

White roses mean truth, innocence, purity, or missing you. White roses are often used for weddings, engagements and the birth of a child. A white rosebud symbolizes girlhood. A bouquet of red and white roses means bonding, harmony and unity. White and yellow roses combined also conveys harmony.

Coral, Peach, Orange

Coral-colored roses mean desire.

Roses that are peach show appreciation, gratitude, modesty, sincerity and sympathy

The vibrant orange rose means enthusiasm, desire, fascination and adventure.

Blue

Blue roses express that something is impossible or unattainable. Blue roses are not found in nature. They are usually white roses that have been dyed.

Black

Death and saying farewell are represented by the black rose. The black rose is also not found in nature.

The number of roses given also have a hidden meaning. A single red rose means "I Love You". A single rose of any other color expresses gratitude. Two red roses, or a red rose with a white rose, indicates an upcoming marriage or engagement. A dozen roses is a declaration of love. Twenty-five roses means congratulations, while fifty roses shows unconditional love. A crown of roses represents virtue.

Even though rose colors have different meanings, the preference of the recipient often dictates the color of roses you send.
