Ways to make your Valentine's Day stand out.

Valentine’s Day is the ideal occasion to show your partner how much you care about him or her. The perfect celebration doesn’t have to be expensive or overdone, but it does have to be romantic and well thought out. To ensure a sublime evening, here are five essentials required for the best possible Valentine’s Day commemoration.

A Thoughtful Gift

While candy and flowers are often associated with Valentine’s Day, they can seem rather mundane and uncreative. After all, if you want to show your mate how much you value his or her affection you should offer a gift that uniquely represents the person they are. The token can be small and inexpensive, but it does have to be specific to your mate.

For instance, while a store-bought present is always nice, a homemade gift could have more meaning. Or, rather than giving a physical token, you could offer them an experience they’ve always wanted to try such as skydiving or a foreign language class.

Romantic Meal

Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular days to take your partner out for dinner. But a romantic champagne brunch or even breakfast makes a nice alternative as well. As in most things in life, it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you make the moment special. Treat Valentine’s Day a little different than the average times you and your partner dine together. Go to a special place, dress up, pull out her chair or let him order.

Music to Get You in the Mood

Whether you both like soft jazz, or have a favorite rock tune that represents your love story, don’t forget music as part of your Valentine’s Day celebration. Listening to your favorite songs can set the right mood, help you both relax, and spark conversations about cherished memories you perhaps wouldn’t normally talk about.

Ambiance

Candles, music, and the right atmosphere are essential for a meaningful Valentine’s Day. Every couple has its own preference on what songs, restaurants, and activities make up a special night. In other words, you don’t have to listen to crooner music if you and your mate both love rock and roll. Or, if a noontime brunch sounds like heaven to you both, forgo dinner plans in favor of an early meal.

Tell Your Partner How Much He or She Means to You

With all the planning that can go into a Valentine’s Day celebration, don’t forget to do the most important thing: Tell your partner how much you appreciate him or her. Never assume your mate automatically knows you care. Tell them. Show them. Use Valentine’s Day as the inspiration for how to treat your partner all year ‘round.
