There are plenty of songs about losing love and breaking up, but what about when you’re so happy you could burst? Here are a few songs to help you celebrate your bliss. (Just don’t play them for someone who is bummed about a recent breakup!)
Aguilera started singing as a child and gained fame before she was even in her teens. She grew up under the glare of the public spotlight, but unlike her cohorts seemed to mature into a smart, successful, young women.
It’s no coincidence that Aguilera recorded “Ain’t No Other Man” a short time after she married Jordan Bratman. She had finally found the man of her dreams and was happily in love. The song reflects her spirit and energy, and provides the perfect anthem for a woman not afraid to say she’s in love with her man.
Back to Basics [RCA Records, 2006]
Beyoncè Knowles met rapper Jay-Z when the two collaborated on an album together in 2002. Not long after, they were rumored to be dating. Unlike other celebrities, however, Knowles remained silent on the subject of her personal life. Knowles proved that sometimes keeping your relationship quiet could actually protect it and allow it to grow.
A year after they met, Jay-Z helped Knowles on her Dangerously in Love album. The songs on the album reflected Knowles state of mind, especially “Baby Boy,” where she sang:
“Baby boy you stay on my mind
Fulfill my fantasies
I think about you all the time
I see you in my dreams”
After a long courtship, the pair married in April 2008.
Dangerously in Love [Sony Records, 2003]
There’s a reason why “At Last” is one of the most popular songs for couples to play during their first dance as man and wife. The words of this song beautifully describe the longing that many singles feel before finding their true love.
“At last
my love has come along
my lonely days over
and life is like a song”
Etta James’ voice embodies the soulful nature of the tune without being sugary sweet. The song reflects someone who has waited for the right person, and hasn’t just rushed into marriage without a thought. “At Last” is a testament to the belief that quality people exist, and it’s just a matter of time before you find the one destined for you.
At Last [Chess Records, 1960]
Michael Bublè is a throwback to the crooner age, and yet still adds a modern element into his songs. He has that rare ability to tell a story, rather than just sing random words.
With “Everything” he sings of the pure joy of finding someone who makes everything in life just a little bit better.
“You're a falling star, you're the get away car.
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you're the perfect thing to say.”
Call Me Irresponsible [Reprise Records, 2007]
“Good Morning Life” was featured on the Return to Me soundtrack, and for good reason. The song represents a key point in the movie where Bob, the romantic lead, finally finds Grace after his first wife died in a tragic car accident. After the long months of feeling as if he would never find love again, the song helps ring in a new phase in his life. It’s a feeling everyone who has love and lost, only to find love again, will be able to relate to.
Return to Me [RCA/Victor, 2000]
“You’re My Best Friend” delivers the key to what a true partnership really is. In an age of emotional affairs and infidelity, it communicates that real love means you must look to your partner first for friendship, companionship, and support. The lines:
“You've stood by me girl
I'm happy at home (happy at home)
You're my best friend”
convey an old fashioned desire to simply be with the one who is there when everyone else has left you behind. The song sweetly refers to coming home at the end of the day and looking forward to seeing your partner.
A Night At the Opera [Hollywood Records, 1975]
Finding a true partnership can be difficult, but these songs remind all of us that when you meet that someone special, there is nothing better. More than that, love should never be taken for granted. So celebrate it to the soundtrack of these joyful melodies.
