Where to take the object of your affection on a first date.

You’ve met your date out for coffee and the two of you agreed to meet again, this time for a real first date. But what to do?

Dinner Out

Even if you’re a whiz in the kitchen, avoid making dinner for your date at home. Instead, take him or her out to a great restaurant you’ve already been to and know is good. Choose somewhere with lots of personality and a variety of clientele.

Brunch

Taking your date for a bite to eat out during the day can be just as romantic as at night. Choose an eatery that provides a backdrop for conversation and a menu that’s out of this world.

Light Activity

Get your heart rate up and take in beautiful scenery. Choose a well-lit public trail at the local park so you both feel comfortable. Unlike other aerobic activities, biking allows you to go at a slower pace so you can still enjoy the company of your new flame.

Bowling is another great alternative because it allows plenty of time to chat. If you’re both into golf, hitting a bucket of balls at the driving range will also give you something to do while you get used to each other’s company.

Get Creative

Take your date to a “paint your own pottery” place. The distraction of painting a unique piece of art, even if you’re not creatively inclined, will help ease any slow spots in the conversation.

Movies and Laughs

The best first dates are the ones that allow you to get to know your date. However, movies and comedy clubs can work out just fine if you follow them up with time to converse afterward. Best of all, if you find you have the same sense of humor, it can quickly bond the two of you together.

Kid Stuff

Who says you can’t revisit your childhood on a first date? Take your new love interest to an amusement park, arcade, or miniature golf outing. Do you remember the top score from your favorite video game? The nostalgia factor alone is sure to spark topics to talk about.

Art Appreciation

Opera, ballet, or theater performances are all great events to start out your first date. Museums will also give you something to talk about. Make sure your date also enjoys this type of activity, and that you have some time planned for coffee and conversation afterwards.

No matter what you do, remember that first dates should be light and fun. Be sure to engage in good first date etiquette, meet your date out at a public place, and just focus on getting to know one another.
