Dating is fun, but can also be expensive. Don't let the recession prevent you from finding your next relationship. Try these date ideas to save cash.

There are a hundred different places you could go on a date, but unfortunately, many of these very romantic places are also very expensive. For instance, Paris may be a romantic's dream, but make a more frugal person balk. These dating alternatives can be fun and cost little to nothing.

Make Dinner Together

Instead of splurging and going out to eat, try cooking for your partner, or better yet, cook a meal together. This not only saves money, but can be a bonding experience. Maybe one of you knows the way around the kitchen better, and can teach the other, or else you can bond over how neither of you really knows the difference between sauté and simmer. And, if you're lucky, you will end up with a delicious home-made meal.

Go on a Picnic

A picnic is another good date idea to consider, provided the weather is nice. Pack up a few sandwiches, chips, and watermelon and head to the nearest park. You can take in the scenery, enjoy the weather, and spend time talking without having to spend a lot of money. To make this date even more romantic, bring a bottle of wine or champagne.

Go to a Museum

Do some research on local museums and find out admission rates. Often, museums are either free or cost less on specific days. Going to a museum is educational and can provide hours of amusement. And if the date is going off really well (meaning you both agree that the sculpture on floor three was genius) you can end the night grabbing coffee at the museum cafe.

Spend the Day at the Beach

If location allows it, try spending the day at the beach together. Relax with each other lying out in the sun or if you're more adventurous, go parasailing or water skiing. As an added bonus, you get to see your date in their bathing suit. Besides the cost of parking, this date should cost you little to nothing.

Watch a Movie at Home

Rather than go out to the movies to see the latest action flick, rent an older movie you've both been dying to see. Microwave some popcorn, and enjoy snacking on candy that doesn't cost you $5.50. Best of all, since you are in the privacy of your own home you don't have to worry about listening to someone's obnoxious ongoing conversation in the background. And if the mood strikes, there's nothing stopping you from making out a little mid-film.

Don't let the recession stop you from having a great dating experience. Yes, cooking or packing your food may take a little bit more work, but in the end will cost you less. Plus, these dates can break up the monotony of always going out to dinner or to the movies. Furthermore, because in general these dates take more planning and preparation, they show your date that you truly care about him and enjoy spending time with him.
